Glossary
GEO (generative engine optimisation)
Definition
The practice of structuring a website's content, schema, and crawlability so that generative search engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Bing Copilot) cite it accurately as a source.
Why it matters
GEO is the new layer on top of classical SEO. The signals are similar (clear answers, structured data, reachable URLs) but the consumer is different — An LLM that quotes you in an answer rather than a human who clicks through.
Example
An /about page that ships a Person JSON-LD with verifiable sameAs links is far more likely to be cited correctly than a beautifully designed page with no machine-readable identity.
