Theta-alpha convergence
Definition
A measure of how closely the spectral centroids of the theta and alpha EEG bands approach the ~8 Hz boundary between them.
Why it matters
In Andrei's 2026 EEG paper, theta-alpha convergence is the main correlate of the Phi Coupling Index: subjects whose alpha/theta ratio is closer to φ than to 2:1 show stronger convergence toward the theta-alpha boundary. It is a frequency-architecture measure, not a claim of classical phase-amplitude coupling.
Example
A subject with theta centroid near 6.2 Hz and alpha centroid near 9.8 Hz shows stronger theta-alpha convergence than a subject whose theta and alpha centroids remain farther apart.
